Marco van Basten would like to see Ryan Gravenberch play in the Ajax shirt for a few more years. The former coach of Ajax and the Dutch national team, among others, sees André Onana struggling after a period without playing time and he also fears this at Gravenberch.
.......,
'Onana has been out for a year and you see what it does to a goalkeeper. If he doesn't play much for a period like Van de Beek and Klaassen, then you will be much worse off," said Van Basten at Rondo . 'First play for three seasons at Ajax as a permanent strongman and then go abroad. Why so much risk? It's not about the clubs, that boy has to build a good career himself.'
Ronald de Boer sees, apart from his opinion about the impending transfer, that Gravenberch is on the upward trend. 'He is making progress. Since he ended up on the bench, he has thought: I need to step up a gear, otherwise I won't play," he notes.
The future of(here should deleted Ajax) Ajax ,
The future of Ajax worries Van Basten. Noussair Mazraoui, Ryan Gravenberch and André Onana will leave in the coming summer, Nicolás Tagliafico is scheduled to leave and players like Daley Blind and Dusan Tadić are getting older. Van Basten explains how he thinks today's Ajax is already falling short. 'The difference between a good Ajax and the Ajax of today is that a large, good team is able to function well as a team, but also allow an individual to make the difference every now and then. You haven't seen that much this season.'
"The collective was good, but the individual was not able to make a difference in a difficult match - in which a team cannot make a difference," he adds. 'That makes the difference between the top teams that go far (in the Champions League, ed.) and Ajax this season.'
